Do you use Mala Beads in your Meditation Practice ?
Mala beads are a meditation tool originating from India that are used to help build focus and concentration during the meditation process.
While the patterns and materials of the beads may vary, each strand is made with 108 beads.
How to Use Mala Beads In meditation practice, we start with the Guru bead (the Aum bead shown below) in our dominant hand and then work our way around the strand pulling and rolling each bead between our fingers. As we roll the bead we inhale-pause-exhale. In a Mantra meditation, you would focus on not only the breath but also recite a set of mantras that you have selected as your focal point for the meditation.
108 In meditation 108 is a divine number with 108 energy lines converging to create the heart chakra, 108 sacred pressure points in the body, and it is believed that to grow in skill, requiring only 108 breaths in a day, is to achieve enlightenment.
